The pei pok ប៉ីពក is a free-reed aerophone. It is made from bamboo thatch. The reed is made of brass, formerly bamboo.
Literature too often presents it as a flute. However, it does not share the same sound-producing characteristics, i.e. a free reed rather than a bevel on which a blade of air breaks.
It is a fairly rare instrument in this geographical area. It is more common among the ethnic minorities of northern Vietnam, where it is the standard melodic instrument.
Use
The pei pok is sometimes used in place of the pei ar oboe in the arak orchestra.
